HK Wall Bed 10-Year Warranty — What's Actually Covered

"10-year warranty" sounds impressive on a brochure. But what does it actually cover when the gas spring fails in year 7? When a hinge cracks? When you sell the flat? This page is the unmarketing answer — what's in, what's out, how the claim works.

What the 10-year warranty covers

The warranty covers the American SBLM patented mechanism — the structural and moving parts that actually bear daily load:

• Lift system (the assist that pulls the bed up against gravity)
• Gas springs (the cylinders that take most of the load)
• Hinge points (where the bed pivots from frame to wall)
• Locking arm (the safety lock that holds the bed down when extended)
• Frame welds (the structural joints of the bed cradle)
• Wall-mount brackets (the parts bolted into your wall)

10 years from install date. Manufacturer-backed (American SBLM warranties our installs at the mechanism level; we handle the local labour).

What's NOT covered

• Mattress — separate warranty (typically 1-3 years, varies by mattress brand)
• Cabinetry / decorative panels — separate warranty (5-10 years depending on material; standard furniture exclusions apply)
• Misuse damage — exceeding 750kg dynamic load, jumping on extended bed, etc.
• Water damage — leak from upstairs unit warping the wood frame
• Structural changes — if you renovate the wall the mechanism mounts to (e.g. drywall reno that moves the studs)
• Cosmetic wear — scratches, fading, normal wear on visible surfaces

How the claim process works

1. WhatsApp us with photo + description — we triage within 24 hours. 60% of "warranty" calls are actually adjustment issues (gas spring re-calibration, hinge re-greasing) — we fix on first visit, no parts needed.
2. On-site inspection (free) — we confirm the failure mode and whether it's covered.
3. If covered — we replace the part. SBLM gas springs and hinges are kept in stock locally. Lead time for non-stock items: 2-6 weeks from US.
4. Labour — our local labour is included for covered claims within 10 years. No call-out fee.
5. If borderline — we'll explain our reasoning before we quote, and offer a partial-cover option (e.g. part free, labour at standard rate) where it's reasonable. No surprises.

Transfer to a new flat owner

If you sell the flat with the wall bed installed, the warranty transfers to the next owner. Process:

1. Original owner (you) signs our one-page transfer form (we email it)
2. New owner countersigns + emails us their contact
3. We schedule a free condition inspection within 30 days of transfer
4. Inspection report goes to new owner with remaining warranty period highlighted

Why this matters: when you sell the flat, telling the buyer "wall bed has 7 years of transferable American-mechanism warranty" is concrete proof. We've seen flats sell faster when the buyer knows the wall bed isn't a hidden liability.

Why a 10-year HK warranty is rare

Most HK furniture brands warranty 1-3 years. Generic imported Murphy beds: 1-2 years if any. The 10-year warranty on our installs comes from:

• American SBLM is the manufacturer warranty backstop — they've made this mechanism for 30+ years; field-failure rates are documented and predictable
• We're the sole HK distributor — direct relationship with the manufacturer; faster part sourcing
• Local installation by trained team — installs we do are warranted by us; we don't ship DIY kits
• Our incentive aligns with yours — a failure in year 7 means we eat the part + labour cost. We want every install to last; we're not a 1-time-sale operator

The honest version: what fails after 5-10 years?

Based on actual HK service calls on our installs over the past 5 years:

• Gas springs (year 5-8 typical) — pressure drops over time, makes the lift feel heavier. Replacement is 30 min on-site. Covered.
• Hinge re-greasing (year 3-5) — needs lubrication if the bed has been used daily. We do this as part of any service call. Covered as maintenance.
• Locking arm wear (year 7+) — the metal contact point on the lock can wear. Replacement is 20 min. Covered.
• Mattress sag (year 3-7) — separate warranty per mattress brand. Not us, but we'll help you claim from the mattress vendor.
• Cabinetry chip (any time) — touch-up paint we supply free for the first 5 years; full panel replacement at cost after that.

The mechanism doesn't catastrophically fail. It degrades gradually, and our service calls catch it before you notice.
